Once Windows started it mapped the drive as D: and no longer used CdRom0. Working... I kinda winged it using an educated guess. I also tried using another XP CD-ROM, just in case the first one was damaged, but to no avail.The problem seemed to be because I had a usb stick plugged in have a peek here

You can change this preference below. I removed the DVD drives (IDE) previously installed and installed two DVD/RW's (SATA2)... Put drive back in, removed the USB-CD drive so the program kept asking me for the "D:\I386\asms" path. On restarting the PC "repair" seems to be proceeding again.

Now magically when I almost gave up..my cd worked...all I have to say to people experiencing the same prob is that keep trying or get another cs rom and attach it I tried to install Win XP 3 times with this CD and got the same results.
