The Win98SE bootdisk makes a Ramdrive, which will cause your CDROM drive to be bumped up a letter, probably to e: , to you would type this in that case: xcopy Have you tried to install to ANOTHER completely fresh hard drive using that CD? I even stuck the original disc that come for repairing drivers. If I activate windows in the D: partition (if it can be done) does it replace the installation I did or does it become a second operating system for Windows XP

I have removed all components except the Video card, RAM, CD-DVD and 3.5 floppy drives. Seeing that these were also purchased from Newegg.com (again, need to blame MS for finding cheapo duplicators) and am getting the same error. It would be wise to have SMARTDRV.EXE from floppy before copying files or even running the setup command, because it can take ages from DOS otherwise. i'm glad it finally didn't stuck anymore!! That is why I think that the burn speed is the issue. Spent nearly 5 hours trying things back and forth.
